The Urgent Care Centre is the second phase of the three-phase Emergency Department improvement project delivered by Kier Health under the P21+ framework.

In addition to the improvements made to the Minor and Major Injuries Units undertaken in phase one this area provides  consultation, treatment and assessment, staff support, waiting, administration and other support functions.

The remodelled accommodation is arranged with a large, naturally lit central waiting area bounded by treatment and assessment rooms.  Patients enter these rooms directly when heralded by clinicians.  Clinicians can enter the rooms from the designated staff corridors on the opposite side.  This arrangement allows separation between staff functions and front of house activities.  This has proved to be an effective working arrangement in many North American EDs.
