A former diagnostic imaging suite was refurbished to provide this new satellite clinic.  Providing radiotherapy treatment services, this new TomoTherapy suite situated over two floors houses two new treatment rooms at ground level each containing a state-of-the-art TomoTherapy machine supplied by Accuray.

This project presented many challenges, not least of which was providing the concrete ‘bunker’ enclosure around the treatment rooms to achieve the required levels of radiation protection.

Due to programme, space constraints and the need to dismantle the treatment rooms at the end of a ten year service period, a modular bunker wall construction was adopted with specialist concrete interlocking blocks imported from America. The entire ground floor slab had to be excavated to accommodate the concrete bunkers and achieve the appropriate floor to ceiling height.  Attention to detail and co-ordination of the structure and services were key to delivering this project.
