This extension to the present chemotherapy suite comprises a ‘link-building’ which joins the existing waiting area and new treatment building, and a new larger treatment space.
This treatment area accommodates fourteen chemotherapy treatment chairs and six clinical trial treatment chairs.
The internal design of the treatment area is intended to be uplifting for both staff and patients, providing a bright and spacious environment with a distinctive tubular pin-jointed steel structure exposed to the interior, with east and west walls fully glazed to take advantage of the morning and late afternoon sun and the therapeutic value of overlooking the new landscaped gardens. A specially commissioned triptych by the artist Nikki Sims provides both visual stimulation and a calming effect for the patients.
The project was extremely well received and was opened by the late Sir Terry Wogan.
