AD Architects has undertaken a number of cancer treatment related projects on this site over the last ten years, including an MRI laboratory, Cyclotron and Radiopharmacy and Linear Accelerator.  AD Architects were asked to design the first CyberKnife stereotactic radiotherapy suite in the NHS, which includes a treatment room, control room and ancillary accommodation.

The highly shielded treatment room was housed within a dramatically reconfigured linear accelerator bunker and the facility provides state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment to NHS patients. The site was surrounded by active clinical accommodation, and not a single day of service was lost due to the work. The design of the internal environment is based on providing an artificial sky, the patient’s own choice of music and gently changing colours from natural leaf forms on a hygienic, back-lit wall surface.
