SECTOR: Education | Community |
Location
Loughton, Essex
BUDGET
£26m
A major Further Education college development which replaced outdated facilities in Loughton, Essex – AD Architects developed a striking design for a new four-storey landmark building within an overall master plan for the campus.
The scheme included the re-provision of an Essex County Council public library, plus a variety of other publicly accessible facilities for the people of Loughton, including café/restaurant, hairdressers and travel agents, as well as varied accommodation for the College covering the whole curriculum range.
The building was designed with a floor area of approximately 14,500m² and the provision of 380 car parking spaces. The design had to take into consideration the needs of staff, students and members of the public, any of whom might arrive on foot, by private car, by bus or from the Debden London Underground station.
The building was built by Morgan Sindall under a Design and Build contract.

Innovative design within a restricted budget
"AD Architects produced an innovative design within a restricted budget. They worked closely with key stakeholders to ensure they designed a landmark building which was efficient and in keeping with the surrounding area. I found the team friendly in their approach and professional in their delivery of the project."
