Loughton, Essex

Having prepared a feasibility study and development brief for a major new college development to replace and refurbish existing facilities in Loughton, Essex, AD subsequently developed detailed proposals for a new four-storey landmark building.

The scheme included the re-provision of an Essex County Council public library, plus a variety of other publicly accessible facilities for the people of Loughton, including café/restaurant, hairdressers and travel agents, as well as varied accommodation for the College covering the whole curriculum range.

The building was designed with a floor area of approximately 14,500m² and the provision of 380 car parking spaces. The design had to take into consideration the needs of staff, students and members of the public, any of whom might arrive on foot, by private car, by bus or from the Debden London Underground station.

The building was procured using a Design and Build contract.
