Barn Elms Playing Field

AD Architects worked with sports and leisure consultants Torkildsen Barclay, the Council’s Development and Regeneration Department and Barn Elms Sports Trust to deliver a scheme which has successfully regenerated the very sensitive Barn Elms Playing Field site between Barnes Common and the River Thames.

This process included the development of an overall site strategy through public consultation, negotiations with the local Planning Authority and other stakeholders (including the Environment Agency and English Nature, due to the adjoining London Wetlands SSSI). AD prepared a master plan which included facilities for football, rugby, cricket, tennis and netball and a new changing pavilion to achieve BREEAM Excellent standard.

The completed pavilion, which comprises six team changing rooms and a community/function room, has helped transform the Barn Elms site into a Multi-Sports Hub.  The project was funded by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Barn Elms Sports Trust, the Football Foundation, the London Marathon Charitable Trust, the Mayor of London and the Veolia Environmental Trust.
